What exactly do you do at Signpost?
Roel: "I have three different roles within the Signpost Hardware team in the Netherlands. As an Account Manager I am responsible for the northwestern region of the country. I contact schools in that region to enter into a partnership with Signpost. In addition, I talk to higher education institutions in order to sell our hardware options to their students.
Finally I am a Sales Coordinator and in that role I support the other Account Managers, coordinate sales activities, contribute to our participation in tenders and provide support to the Sales Manager."
What does your day look like?
Roel: "No day is ever the same. It is a mix of telephone calls with schools, sending and replying to internal and external emails and taking part in internal Teams meetings. But the best part is the meetings with decision makers at the schools. Due to COVID-19 many of these meetings are online, but I hope we will soon be able to have live meetings again with our contacts at the schools."
How did you end up working at Signpost?
Roel: "Before I joined Signpost, I worked for a distributor of educational materials in various commercial positions for almost 15 years. Target groups were similar to Signpost's, only the products were different: books and digital educational materials. In recent years, I was mainly involved in the sale of digital educational material and its accessibility via a dedicated educational platform. The company went bankrupt and when I saw the vacancy for Signpost Netherlands, it was an easy choice for me."
What are your interests besides work?
Roel: "I like to spend my spare time with friends and family, having dinner together and enjoying their company. I also like to read books and magazines in different genres. Finally, I like to watch soccer games in general, but especially when Ajax plays."
